MCW Technologies NewPrefix Version 1.1The NewPrefix utility was written for a friend who always gets digital copies of his photos when he gets them developed. When you get them on disk or download them from the internet, they always have numerical file names. This handy utility lets you give your files meaningful names without having to rename them one at a time. Download NewPrefix 1.1 (101K bytes) Requirements:
Using NewPrefixStarting the ApplicationBy default NewPrefix is installed in "C:\Program Files\MCW Technologies\NewPrefix\". Shortcuts are added to the Start menu under "Programs", "MCW Technologies", and "NewPrefix". Click the NewPrefix shortcut to start the application. Follow steps 1 through 4. Step 1Click the "Select File" button to display the Windows "Open" dialog box.
Browse to the directory where the files are located. Highlight one of the files you wish
to change the prefix of. You on can only select files with the following extensions; JPG,
BMP, or GIF. Click the "Open" button to select the file and go to step 2. Step 2Select the number of prefix characters you would like to replace. Watch the "New Name" box at the bottom as you press the up and down arrows. The new file name will remove prefix characters as the "Characters to Replace" value goes up. Set the option of changing "Just files with this prefix" or "Just this file". Step 3In the replace with box type in the new prefix to give to the files. Again watch the "New Name" box as you add characters to see what the new file name will be. Step 4When you have the new name the way you like press the "Change name(s)" button and the files will be renamed. Revision ChangesVersion 1.1
