MoveFiles Version 2.01

The MoveFiles utility was written to move files from several different Visual C++ project directories to an organized group of directories for building big software releases.  But it can be use for any file copying that needs to move files from multiple directories to other locations.  It's also useful for moving file to removable disk for backups.

Requirements:

  • Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, or XP.
     
  • 500K hard drive space.
     
  • 32Meg ram.
     

Using MoveFiles

Starting the Application

By default MoveFiles is installed in "C:\Program Files\MCW Technologies\MoveFiles\".  Shortcuts are added to the Start menu under "Programs", "MCW Technologies", and "MoveFiles".  Click the MoveFiles shortcut to start the application.

Adding Source Files

Source files are the files that will be copied.  Click the "Add Source Files" button  or select the "Add Source Files" option from the "File" menu to display the add dialog box.  Browse to the directory where the source files are located. Highlight one or more files from the directory.  Hold down the "Shift" or "Ctrl" key while clicking to select multiply files.  Click the "Add" button to add the highlighted files to the "Source Files" column.  The destination for these files will default to "-NONE-".  Add more files from other directories until all your source files are in the source list.

Setting the Destination Paths

Highlight the source files by clicking on the file names.  Hold down the "Shift" or "Ctrl" key while clicking to select multiply files.  Click the "Set Destination" button  to display the Directory Select" dialog box.   Browse to the directory where you wish the source files to be copied.  You can create new directories using the "Create New Folder" button .  Click the "Save" button to add the path to "Destination Path" column for each highlighted source file.

Setting the Destination File Options

The destination file options allow you to modify the read-only bit on the source files when copied to the destination directory.  This option will apply to all files when copied.  Select this option from the "Options" menu.  The "Don't Change Read-only Bit" option will set the read-only bit on the destination files to the same as the source file.  The "Reset Read-only Bit" option will turn off the read-only bit on the destination files.  The "Set Read-only Bit" option will turn on the read-only bit on the destination files.

Verifying the Links

To verify the links (source files and destination paths), click the "Verify Links" button  or select the "Verify Links" option from the "File" menu.  The "Verify Links" option will verify all source files and destination paths exits.  It will notify you of invalid links.  This is done automatically when performing a "Move Files" command.

Moving the Files

To copy the files from source to destination, click the "Move Files" button  or select the "Move Files" option from the "File" menu.  The links will be verified and the source files will be copied to their destination locations.  Files that have a destination of "-NONE-" will not be copied.  You will also be prompted to overwrite destination files that all ready exist.

Removing Files

To remove files, highlight the source files you wish to remove from the list.  Click the "Remove Selected Files" button  or select "Remove Selected Files" option from the "Files" menu.>

Saving Your File Selections

You can save your file selections to a JMF file for later use.  Use the "New" , "Open" , "Save" , and "Save As" options under the "File" menu.
